AC2.1 Writing Tasks

This writing task is to be done by your next lesson! It is only compulsory if you have only done two writing tasks this session so far.
  1. A new president of the United States has recently been elected and is soon to take office. Write a letter to the new president, outlining two or three policies you would like to see him implement or change, and giving reasons about why you think it is important that these policies are implemented or changed. Write your letter in 300 – 350 words.

  2. Look at some examples of standard Cambridge Exam writing tasks. Write a letter to the Cambridge Examinations Syndicate, complaining about the tedious and repetitive choice of writing tasks set, suggesting new areas to be included in writing task themes, and saying why this would not necessarily affect the University of Cambridge's policy on socio-culturally acceptable materials. Write your letter in 300 – 350 words.

  3. The director of the British Council has invited students to write to him with their positive or negative experiences of studying at the British Council. Write to the director, saying in what ways your British Council experience has or has not been a positive one. Write your letter in 300 – 350 words.

  4. You have read the extract below in a British weekly news magazine. You have strong feelings about the content of the article, and decide to write a letter to the editor in which you respond to the points made and express your own views.

The ridiculous nature of EU bureaucracy and rules was in the spotlight again this week. A market trader in Bristol was banned from selling a batch of kiwi fruit because they were 1mm smaller than EU rules allow. EU Inspectors told the 53-year-old trader that he was forbidden even to give the 5,000 kiwis away – despite the fact that they were perfectly edible.
