Chinese Whispers

‘Chinese Whispers’ is a one hour show by performance poet Francesca Beard.

It examines the connectivity between language, culture and identity, especially with reference to multi-cultural Britain and Francesca’s own background as a British national of Chinese-Malay origin.

‘Chinese Whispers’ is full of life and vibrancy, is interactive with the audience, fast paced, thoughtful yet humorous.

The BritLit project (British Council, Portugal) is planning series of workshops based on Chinese Whispers and run by Francesca (in April) followed by a series of performances (in May) in Porto and Lisbon. Both workshops and performances will be free of charge and will be especially useful for tertiary students of English as well as teachers of English.

AC2.1 (CPE 1) Writing

Both AC2.1 groups are in the middle of working on 'reports', so that's a writing task that's coming up. We're already well into session two now, though, so if you're an AC2.1 student and you would like to get started on your assessed writing tasks, here's another choice.

Pick a news item of your choice from an English-Language newspaper or news magazine. The newspaper or magazine can be online or on paper. Write a letter to the editor of the paper, expressing your views on the story. Write your letter in 300-350 words.

Hand in or email your letter, plus a copy of the story, to me by March 19th.
